War Service: Alexander enlisted at Geraldton, WA, on 16 Mar 1915 aged 23 years 4 months. He embarked 29 Jun 1915 per HMAT Ascanius from Fremantle, WA for the Gallipoli Peninsula. Alexander saw action at Gallipoli from September 1915 until the successful evacuation in December. He disembarked with his battalion in Marseilles, France 21 Mar 1916. On 28 Jun 1916, Alexander was admitted to hospital in France for dental reasons and returned to duty 06 Jul 1916.
Killed in Action: Between 04 to 06 Aug 1916 at Pozières, Somme Sector of the Western Front, France, aged 24 years 9 months. The 28th Battalion’s first major action in France was at the Battle of Pozières in August 1916 when the battalion suffered heavy losses. Alexander has no known grave.
